A Tale of Two Britain's

A Tale of Two Britain’s.

Britain for me is a tale of two entities you see

On one hand green leafy villages

And on the other, the nitty gritty of the cities

It’s a fable of contrasts as you walk along Britain’s paths

In the village you have suspicion to everything new

Outsiders tested to see if you can fit in

There’s the long rolling hills and the arable landscape

As animals nuzzle and butterflies soar

In the city there’s gun crime, robbery and murder

Much innovation but a gap between rich and poor

There’s people on the streets with nothing to eat

While people in coffee shops avert their eyes as they meet

In the countryside there’s walks, as the birds chatter and chirp

There’s historic cathedrals and old market towns

We have farmers markets with local produce to sample

There’s quirky craft stalls with fine objects to purchase

Back in the city we have rising stress levels

A mental health crisis and a breaking NHS

We have addictions and crisis in lots of our residents

Services are breaking but we’re in it together

In the rural community there is also much struggle

Hands tied by directives sent from the EU

But the location is better, less stress for the eye

As we go to the local, with our friends we spend time

In the city we have boxing, football and dog racing

As we spend hard earned cash on overpaid prima donnas

We have nightclubs and bouncers to police our entertainment

We have drunks on the street who haven’t been paid yet

In the country there’s horseracing, yachting and trekking

We climb up the hills to take in the views

The pace is much slower, people are mindful

There’s campsites and guest houses for people to stay

In the city it’s frantic, fast paced and nutty

As people rush about never looking at anyone’s face

It’s all about status and wearing the right label

We spend obscene amounts on an item of clothing

Far away in the fields of this green and pleasant land

There’s a farmer in corduroy with a cap on his head

As he looks out on his flock with a calm head

A voice says to his soul, this is the Britain I love
