Little by Little

This is a poem about not feeling 100% but carrying on regardless its about the face we put on for the World, when really we are feeling like running away from it all. Now where's that holiday brochure.

Little by little,

We grow and we learn,

We get to understand our own self-doubt.

We are never kind to ourselves,

Always see the bad side.

We don’t like,

Focus on energy that damages our souls.

Little by little,

We understand our hopes and fears,

Get to kinda knowing, we’re meant to be here.

We take comments to heart,

Internalise everything.

Overthink conversations,

Self-medicate to manage.

Little by little,

We start to develop,

A steely, cold grit, so we can do our bit.

We let racing thoughts rule,

But don’t understand why.

Our thought patterns are heavy,

But do we know we have to try?

Little by little,

Our minds start to open,

When you hit the bottom, the only way is up.

We walk round in a daze,

Caught in misery from all our yesterdays.

Thee vice like grip of being unhappy,

Becomes our reality as we struggle to breathe.

Little by little,

The darkness begins to lift,

Baby steps forward with hope in your heart.

We struggle to vocalise,

All the pain that we feel.

Pretending instead that our feelings aren’t real

Putting the mask on, facing the World with the smile of a clown.

Little by little,

The light starts to shine,

We see hope for the future, instead of bottles of wine.
